Let’s Talk About Health

Depression (II Part)

The World Health Organization said that it is a common mental disorder. Globally it is estimated that 5% of adult suffer from this disorder. Depression is a leading cause of disability around the world and contributes greatly to the global burden of disease.

The causes of depression include complex interactions between social, psychological and and biological factors. Life events such as childhood adversity, loss unemployment contribute to and may catalyze the development of depression.

BY FEBRUARY OF 2022 THEIR WAS 280 MILLION PEOPLE WAS LIVING IN DEPRESSION. ALMOST THE SAME AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WITH ANXIETY DISORDER, AND AROUND 46 MILLION PEOPLE WITH BIPOLAR DEPRESSION.

The institute for health metric and evaluation, reported their flagship Global Burden of Disease study report that they estimates that 792 million people lived with a mental health disorder. This is slightly more than one in ten people globally.

Perhaps at this moment you are wondering why or what is the reason you should know about these mental health conditions we’ve talked about in these series of “Let’s talk about health”, I can tell you that it is easier to understand a friend or relative with a mental health condition when you have some background knowledge of the issues they’re dealing with, sometimes by simply listening to someone we can empathize with
that person, not judge but rather trying to understand them or just by giving them company we are helping them out. It is medically proven that loneliness is a quick path to depression…

“ The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in
whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold”. Psalms 18:2
