Let there be light

Genesis 1:1-3 (NIV) “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” Genesis 1:1-3 (NIV)

In the opening verses of the Bible, we are transported to a moment of profound significance—creation itself. Genesis 1:1-3 paints a vivid picture of a world in chaos, shrouded in darkness and void of form. But amidst this obscurity, we find the Spirit of God hovering over the waters, waiting to unleash divine creativity.

The image of God’s Spirit hovering over the chaotic waters speaks to us on multiple levels. It signifies God’s continuous presence, attentiveness, and readiness to bring forth order from chaos. It reminds us that God did not run from the darkness or the chaos, He created in it and spoke to it!

Just as the Spirit was there in the beginning, so too is the Spirit of God present in our lives, ever-watchful and ready to bring transformation. These verses reminds us that God is present and active even in the dark times of our lives, when Hope seems without form or material. It’s then when we ask the Lord to hover over us and speak His Word!

Eternal Creator, we stand in awe of Your creative power and the Spirit that hovers over us. May our worship be a testament to Your presence and our willingness to surrender. Illuminate our lives with Your divine light, transforming our darkness by the power of your Word. May we always remember that there is no canvas, no space or place too dark, too empty, or too broken to keep you from creating beauty. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
