January 6

I am inviting you and all of our CLC friends and family to join me in fast for the rest of the month of January.

Now that Christmas and the New Year celebrations have passed it’s likely that the holiday food in your house, like mine, is all but gone. It is a great time to rededicate ourselves to the Lord for 2023!

A lot has been said about fasting, I have said a lot about fasting over the last 25 years but I would like to keep it simple. Biblical fasting is about going without certain types of food and dedicating the time when you crave that food to praying. Simply put, we use our natural hunger as an alarm clock, a reminder to pray, to read His word, worship the Lord.

Here are some suggestions about fasting:

If you have never fasted, maybe start with a favorite food like meat or sweets. You can also start out with intermitted fasting; for example, fast from 6am to 6pm. If you are a night-eater/snacker like me, maybe a noon to midnight fast!

If you have some experience fasting you might try a Daniel’s Fast- a 21-day no meat, no sweets, no bread fast. We take the model from Daniel chapter 10 verse3.
A 3-day no food fast would be an option for those with more experience. We take this model from the Apostle Paul in Acts 9:9 and Esther in the book of Esther in chapter 4 verse 16.

Throughout the month of January you may want to try a different kind of fast each week.

If you have a medical condition, please consult your doctor first.

Other fasting Scriptures include:

Nehemiah 2:5
Jonah 3:5
Isaiah 58
Exodus 34:28
Matthew 4

Remember, this is not a New Years resolution, or a weight loss plan, it is a Heavenly gain plan! To draw closer to the Lord, fine-tune our spiritual hearing and using our natural hunger as an alarm clock to feed our relationship with Christ. I hope that you will join me!
